Unsere Band der Woche kam zu uns über das Kontaktformular – aus Brasilien! Introspection machen interessanten Death Metal, bestehen seit 2006 und haben, nach drei Demo-Alben, ihr erstes Album Human Emancipation komplett in Eigenregie veröffentlicht. Der Titel macht auch klar, was Sache ist: Hier sind tatsächlich (studierte) Philosophen am Werk, dementsprechend fallen auch die Lyrics aus, die sich kritisch mit Moral, Mensch und Gesellschaft auseinandersetzen. Bei einer Band, die Introspection heißt, ist da natürlich auch ein hohes Maß an Selbstreflexion dabei. Sänger und Bassist Virgínio stellte sich unseren Band der Woche-Fragen:
Who is behind Introspection?
Currently the band consists of Virgínio Gouveia [bass and vocals] Diogo Borges [Drums and Pippa Barros [guitar].
If you had to put your music into a drawer and print a label on it, what would it say?
Say something purely: Traditional Death Metal from Brazil.
How would you describe the sound of Introspection to a deaf person?
A philosopher suggested once that philosophy should abandon the field of concepts to reproduce itself and began to express himself only through images. My interpretation is: The human being is always CREATING NEW WAYS TO OVERCOME THE LIMITS.
I think there is a relationship between consonant sound and images. Although it is clear that there is a uniqueness in each of these sensory forms, combined they can capture the external world and consequently also externalize the interiority of each individual. Much stronger sounds brings us images, and also, lower in intensity, the images remind us of the sounds. I think that Death Metal has its essence: it’s the triad between sound, image and ideology. When you cannot listen to our music, this system lacks potential, but I have still the images as ideology forms belonging to our essence. That would be the way of our identity work for a deaf person: Through using these two spheres that belong to our essence, image and ideology.
Which instrument will surely NEVER be heard on an Introspection-album?
Tambourine, triangle, etc.. We have nothing against the culture or even the origin of these instruments. They just not sonically represent what we feel and what we mean!
Which record would you want to listen to when you leave the bathroom in the morning, while the beautiful girl from last night is still in your bed?
Any music CD: The fragile Art of Existence, Control Denied! Hail!
Which song would you be proud of, had you written it?
Several songs I think are sublime, but to name one just say: „Rapture“ – Morbid Angel.
No alcohol is surely NOT the answer – after which combination of booze will all your problems have dissolved?
Drinks in general have the gift of temporarily solve our problems! After a hangover, everything returns to its natural place. But not drinking too will not solve anything. So a good Chilean wine or Brazilian caipirinha helps you relax.
What shows you that someone is a true friend?
Sincerity and confidence at all times!
Who was the hero of your childhood?
In fact, deep down, I never had heroes. If ever have, seriously, try to kill them.
Are we alone out there?
Do not believe in any extra human strength. In fact we can define three dimensions of being: 1) the organic dimension, 2) the size inorganic and 3) the human dimension. In addition to these three dimensions, nothing exists beyond human speculations!
What’s next? Tour? Studio? Vacation? Something completely different?
We are releasing our CD Human Emancipation in late 2013. Surely come a wide dissemination through means of real metal underground. We will do a few shows, it is not our intention to play. Let’s try a tour. I think consiguiremos take a tour in 2014. Maybe in Europe. This is a real possibility and necessity. We will release official video certainly at the end of this year.
